Summer School 2007
"Migration Flows, Sustainable Development and Neighbourhood Policy in the New EU Countries"
The activities for which the grant is requested consist of the organization of top- level seminars for young university researchers from EU and East neighbour countries. They also aim to the establishment of an international network in the sphere of social issues and EU integration investigation. Furthermore, the initiative involves east-EU mobility flows to take part to international conference and seminars.
The recent enlargement to 10 new member countries requires a consolidation of political and economic relationships with the neighbour countries, above all of Eastern Europe. In the framework of the new EU Neighbourhood Policy, it aimed to setting up a “ring of friends” on the Eastern borders of the European Union. Nevertheless, the recent progress towards full-fledged democratic system in Ukraine requires a rethinking of the Neighbourhood Policy and its social aspects. It is, therefore, necessary to deepen the research effort in order to highlight the prospects and future development of the EU policies towards the East migration flows.
The project activities will be the following ones:
- Holding a number of seminars dedicated to the different aspects of the migration flows and their impact to the EU Neighbourhood Policy and sustainable development of the new EU countries.
- Organisation of a target group with the aim of international research cooperation between the EU researchers, those of the new EU countries, those of the Eastern candidate countries (such as Bulgaria and Romania), and those of the near and far East neighbour countries
- Collective achievement of the research works performed with young researchers
- Research achievements dissemination
- Presentation of the research achievements of different EU and neighbourhood countries institutions and creation of a constructive dialogue between the young researchers
All the activities within the project will be carried out in order to contribute to the success of the European Neighbourhood Policy, and to strengthen the dialogue with the Eastern countries.
Furthermore, they will assure better visibility to the Jean Monnet Action, through the consolidation of the relationships among Jean Monnet universities along the UE- East dimension
